ALECIA NUGENT
A Little Girl...A Big Four-Lane
Rounder Records
BY SAMANTHA STURM
Like many other bluegrass fanatics who enjoy strong female vocals I was awaiting
the new release by Alecia Nugent entitled A Little Girl...A Big Four Lane. I was
not disappointed. I put this album in expecting to be blown away and I was more
than surprised - actually speechless. Every single song on this album shows
strong conviction and the listener can tell Alecia believes every single thing
she is singing. She is backed up by artists such as Doyle Lawson, Cia
Cherryholmes, Alison Krauss, Rebecca Lynn Howard and a wonderful duet with
Bradley Walker. This album is made up of heartbreak songs, beautiful gospel,
songs about death and life. When I hear songs like Where His Wheels Left The
Road and You’ve Still Got It I am reminded that Alecia Nugent is a top-notch
singer and she will be around for many days to come. A perfect mixture, this
album is perfection in all areas. The artists contributing their musical talents
on fiddle and mandolin especially made themselves heard. This is a definite for
anyone who loves female bluegrass singers. I would compare this album to the
likes of Alison Krauss and Rhonda Vincent who always have a great mixture of
songs on their albums and always sound heartfelt and believable. The name Alecia
Nugent will not be forgotten anytime soon in the world of bluegrass music. Songs
include Too Good To Be True, Muddy River, God Knows What, A Dozen White Roses,
Where His Wheels Left The Road, I Cried All The Way To Kentucky, When It Comes
Down To Us (It’s All Up To You), You’ve Still Got It, Breaking New Ground, It
Won’t Be Me, Letter From Home, Somewhere Else To Fall, and Meet Me In Heaven
Someday.
