NEW BLUEGRASS MUSIC MAGAZINE

Bluegrass Music Profiles Magazine, published bi-monthly in Nicholasville, Ky., features personal interviews with national and regional bluegrass music artists. “Bluegrass music originated in Kentucky and the state has produced many of the well-known names in the genre: Bill Monroe, The Osborne Brothers, J. D. Crowe, Ricky Skaggs, Kenny Baker, Melvin Goins, Grandpa Jones, and David (Stringbean) Akeman,” said Publisher/Editor Kevin Kerfoot. “We are proud of our home-grown publication, which bluegrass artists and fans alike have greeted with enthusiasm.”

The debut issue features a cover story on The Dean Osborne Band and personal interviews with bluegrass legends J. D. Crowe and Josh Graves. Other artists featured recently include Ralph Stanley, Doyle Lawson, Jesse McReynolds, Eddie and Martha Adcock, Larry Sparks, Melvin Goins, Dave Evans, Dale Ann Bradley and The Rarely Herd.

Bluegrass Music Profiles magazine is available throughout Kentucky at Renfro Valley, The Kentucky Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Friends Of Kentucky Bluegrass Music Hall, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Barnes & Noble, Hawley-Cooke Booksellers, as well as many other bookstores, music stores and restaurants. Many popular Kentucky artists also carry the magazine on their product tables including J.D. Crowe, Dean Osborne, and The Moron Brothers.

Bluegrass Music Profiles will also be available at the magazine’s product table at most of Kentucky’s bluegrass festivals this summer including The Festival of the Bluegrass in Lexington, Ky.; The Poppy Mountain Festival in Morehead, Ky.; The Osborne Brothers Festival in Hyden, Ky. and The J.D. Crowe Bluegrass Festival in Nicholasville, Ky.

Bluegrass Music Profiles’ publisher, Kevin Kerfoot, is a long-time musician – bass player and songwriter. He began playing in local bands in Central Kentucky in his teens, and was part of a rock group that published an album of original songs in 1982 while touring the Midwest. During the 1980s he again played with hometown bands that included The Usual Suspects, The Sensations, and Tim Lake. He has recently published several country songs.

Paralleling his efforts in the music world has been a career in journalism.  Kerfoot has been a newspaper and magazine editor since graduation from the University of Kentucky’s School of Journalism. A former editor of The Georgetown News and Times, he later edited five industrial news magazines for 11 years.

He feels that drawing on a background of both music and publishing gives him a unique ability to understand and assist musicians.
