BLUEGRASS
JOURNEYMEN
December Rain
BY GRACIE MULDOON
Traditional sounds of bluegrass “pour” from December Rain. The group is
composed of Jeff Richardson, guitar and lead vocals; Jimmy Roberts, Dobro and
vocals; Philip Hurt, mandolin and bass vocals; James Farthing, upright bass and
vocals; and M.E. West, banjo and vocals. Original songs and traditional too
permeate the project. The Bluegrass Journeymen have solid instrumentation and
would be welcome at any festival. My favorite track was Everything To Me
- nicely done. Gospel Strings is a peppy and fun instrumental. Standards
such as John Deere Tractor and I Wonder Where You Are Tonight,
along with Nine Pound Hammer and Children Go Where I Send Thee and
Tennessee Bluegrass are fine examples of solid bluegrass. December
Rain will “wet” your appetite for more good bluegrass. BMP
