Cathy
Fink
Banjo Talkin'
Rounder Records
BY HAL COTTRELL
Banjo
Talkin’ is the newest effort from Cathy Fink and could very well be one of
her best. She uses not only the standard five-string, but also the unusual
instrumentation of the cello, banjo and banjo ukulele. It really is a
celebration of banjos in all their forms and techniques; from melodic to hard
driving, from blues to jazz, from claw hammer to three finger - Cathy runs the
gamut. There are unique arrangements on several songs using banjo and vocals
without the support of a rhythm instrument and the eclectic variety of songs
from traditional American tunes to low down blues make the project a very
enjoyable listen. BMP
